A positive and growth-oriented student- teacher relationship is very important for students of all age groups. It draws students into the process of learning and promotes their curiosity to observe and enquire. This in turn impacts the overall growth and development of the child transforming the child into an informative, opinionated and aware individual with a strong perspective.  A strong bond between students and teachers is very inclusive and requires equal participation from both parties. The onus, however, lies more on the teacher’s shoulder. A friendly relation between the two has long-term consequences on the academic as well as social development of the child. Higher educational self-efficacy, greater self-esteem and increased confidence in students are a perfect reflection of a progressive student- teacher relationship.

Here, it is needless to say that a great teacher can change a student’s life for good. A life-changing teacher not only works as a mentor responsible for academic enrichment but also inspires and guides the students to help them realize their dreams. It is important to mention that our nation has witnessed many ideal student-teacher pairs in its glorious past. The guru- shishya parampara is evident in epics such as Mahabharata where Dronacharya and Arjuna share a guru-shishya bond like no other. Guru Dronacharya’s training of archery skills to the very determined Arjuna made him a skilled warrior resulting in the victory of Pandavas over kauravas. Another great example of this pious relation is the story of the great visionary and royal advisor to the Maurya empire, Chanakya and his student the mighty ruler Chandragupta Maurya. Chanakya played several roles in the life of Chandragupta's. He was a mentor, guardian angel and the person responsible for Chandragupta's early rise to power. Theirs was a relation of respect and trust.

In the present era, the student-teacher relation has changed tremendously. In order to emotionally connect with the students and to teach them life lessons effectively, it has become essential for educators to find innovative and casual ways to connect with their students.

Traditional classroom teachings are becoming increasingly interesting and informal to increase the attention span of all students and enhance their understanding of concepts.

In keeping with the demands of effective dissemination of information, the mode of classroom interactions is changing increasingly. The more formal and restricted interactions between educators and learners have been replaced by informal and friendly conversations between the two. However, one significant factor which remains unchanged since times immemorial is the respect that students of all ages display for their teachers and professors. Respect is above all other factors responsible for positive student-teacher relationships. As long as this factor remains intact teachers will whole-heartedly teach, lead and guide the students to take them to the path of success.
